And by the way, Samuel Alito, in his confirmation hearing, stated that he was the proud son of Italian immigrants; and that in any case before him about discrimination, he would be "informed" by his experience, particularly as it related to his experiences of ethnic, religious, and gender discrimination.

The opposition to Sotomayor (who, after all, protected anti-abortion protestors from the police!) is merely an effort by the extremists of a minority party to raise funds from their base by means of fear mongering.

"As has been pointed out on TPM, here’s President George H.W. Bush on, of all people, Clarence Thomas in July 1991: “I have followed this man’s career for some time. He is a delightful and warm, intelligent person who has great empathy and a wonderful sense of humor.” (My guess is the old pubic hair on the Coke can gag really broke up Babs, too, when George Sr. pulled it.)"

He was complimenting him as a person, not talking about empathy as influencing actual decisions.

"Which is why Andrew won’t get it that according to the American Psychiatric Association, one of the symptoms of antisocial personality disorder (the official term for sociopaths) is: “Apparent lack of remorse or empathy; inability to care about hurting others.”

Yes that is the definition, and what does that have to do with what we are talking about. Are you really this stupid or are you pretending?

As has been pointed out on TPM, here's President George H.W. Bush on, of all people, Clarence Thomas in July 1991: "I have followed this man's career for some time. The tricky part, Steve, is that you're expecting the right to acknowledge reality--like the quotes from their own people can actually go look up, global warming, historical context, etc. Which is why Andrew won't get it that according to the American Psychiatric Association, one of the symptoms of antisocial personality disorder (the official term for sociopaths) is: "Apparent lack of remorse or empathy; inability to care about hurting others."

"Let us go further and say that the opponents of Judge Sotomayor are decrying empathy, a basic human trait. Lack of empathy is a psychological deformation commonly observed in sociopaths."

This comment is so twisted and disingenuous it defies belief. Although par for the course for you.
