   Lack of backbone. For sure.
   The GOP seems to have learned that if one attacks without let up, people sort of assume there is merit. The GOP understands the attention span of most Americans (I guess we don’t remember that the policies that got us into this mess are the ones the GOP are suggesting will get us out of it).

   Tea party and CPAC? As Michael Gerson (no friend of liberals) put it today (noting that Glenn Beck had slammed Teddy Roosevelt at CPAC as a socialist), they want to undo Obama, Medicare, Social Security, all foreign commitments, all progressive era economic regulation, and undo Lincoln’s executive power grab during the Civil War; Gerson says, “Undo it all - until America is left with a government appropriate to an isolated, 18th century farming republic. This is a proposal for a time machine, not a policy agenda.”

   And Obama and the Dems lack the stuffing to call them out on it. I will not be sending a check to the Democratic campaign committee - I’ll hold any contributions for individuals who will fight the threat of ignorance and fear.

   You’re better off doing that, Gary.

   The last straw for me was when I found out about the DSCC spending money to run ads for Ben “Gimme my Cornhusker deal or no health care reform for you” Nelson - who’s not even up for re-election in 2010! Screw that.

   Someone I really respect suggests that if the Democrats really did have spines, they’d put together an omnibus bill that gave the GOP everything it says it wants: no health care reform, no Wall Street reform, no financial regulations, privatize Social Security, end Medicare and Medicaid, no federal minimum wage, no federal safety regulations, no SEC, no EPA, no Department of Education, etc, etc - and then dare the Republicans to vote for it.
