Not Much Else to It
Canceling the prom in order to avoid admitting a homosexual student and her date is about as cowardly and blatant an act of discrimination as you can find. Godspeed, ACLU. It’s like Mississippi hasn’t heard of the 21st century. Reminds me of Randy Newman’s song, “New Orleans Wins the War,” in which the locals not only haven’t heard about the victory, once they have they’re not real clear on which war it is they won:
In 1948 my Daddy came to the city
Told the people that they’d won the war
Maybe they’d heard it, maybe not
Probably they’d heard it and just forgot
‘Cause they built him a platform there in Jackson Square
And the people came to hear him from everywhere
They started to party and they partied some more
‘Cause New Orleans had won the war
(We knew we’d do it, we done whipped the Yankees!)
EDIT: Adding a Wholesome Reading Axiom: School is the place where they teach you about your rights, thereby introducing the young to the concept of hypocrisy.

Really a shame Randy didn’t win the Oscar….again. I think he has won 2 out of 18 nominations.
