In his appearance with Sarah Palin, John McCain said :
McCain declared: “We’re gonna ‘go for it,’ an we’re gonna repeal this bill. We’re gonna stop this spending.”
McCain also said: “Our answer is, yes, we’re gonna ‘go for it,’ and we’re gonna get it, and we’re gonna restore the government back to the people of this country, because this is a right-of-center nation, and this president is governing from the left, and it will not stand.”
I know this is just silly to think about, but if this is a right-of-center nation, then right-of-center is actually the center, which means that conservatives are moderates, liberals are radicals, and tea partyites are fascists. It would be sort of scary if it were true, but it’s not — it’s just more babble from people who can speak only in buzzwords.

No party in America is fascist. But, fascism is more like an extreme extension of left-wing than right wing philosophy. As the book Liberal Fascism points out Mussolini was quite popular among the American left, in the days before he joined with Hitler.
Tea Partiers favor smaller, less intrusive government. To see why they’re nothing like fascists, consider this amusing comment from another blog about people who fear Libertarians: “These people are afraid that Libertarians are going to take over and leave them alone.”

Given that Libertarians’ ultimate goals are to remove ALL government regulation of everything, yes, I would say I am very scared of Libertarians taking over, because when they dismantle the FDA and the EPA (among other things), they certainly won’t be leaving us alone.
“This is a center-right nation” - hmmm. Seems like you lost that last national election, Johnny, and you lost it by a rather large number of votes. So if this is a “center-right nation” like you claim, where were your peeps on November 4, 2008? How did you lose? Logic thrown out in favor of buzzwords; I’m shocked McCain would say so.
If he wasn’t being primaried from the right, you think there’s a chance in hell McCain appears anywhere with Sarah Palin again?

@David: “‘These people are afraid that Libertarians are going to take over and leave them alone.’” Yes, alone without any of the niceties and essentials government provides: an adequate police force, good public schools, affordable health insurance, a healthy environment, and protection from rapacious businesses. But hey, I could spend my money on guns instead of taxes, so why would I complain?
