Idle Musings

“Representative oligarchy,” in which every couple of years we elect a new set of guys to be bought by corporate interests, isn’t the form of government I was told we lived under in school.

I’ll agree with Steven that our government is significantly controlled by special interests. Sometimes these special interests have been corporations. However, at the moment, the controlling special interests are primarily labor unions, particularly the SEIU, and, to a lesser degree, plaintiff’s attorneys.

Let’s follow Steven’s point to its conclusion. Actual government doesn’t function nearly as well as it theoretically could, because much of what it does is designed to please special interests, rather than to serve the general public. It follows that the more power government has, the more they’ll use their power for the benefit of special interests. That’s one reason why limited governemnt is preferable.
