Appreciate Your Patience and Support

My father is still in the hospital, though considerably improved. If things continue the way they have gone, he should be able to come home soon and I should be able to stop worrying and resume my normal activities, which include annoying any number of people who read this blog. I appreciate your patience.

Oddly enough, I find myself spending time at the hospital with a constitutional scholar, and I’ve been taking notes…

Hope things continue to get better, Steve, and that you can soon go back to rousing the ire of your conservative followers.

Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) was a direct response to Enron,…the current round of financial reforms is …a direct response to public outrage surrounding another financial disaster arising from a lack of regulation, albeit in a different sector.

I agree that this is a correct statement. However, what triggered the reforms is less important than whether Obama’s proposed bank reform will actually help the public. This financial expert believes that as written they will harm the public.

Unfortunately, to judge the efficacy of the President’s proposal, one must be a banking and regulatory expert and then spend a great deal of time analyzing the proposal. Even then, one might not be correct in predicting just how a new law will operate.

(BTW in questioning new regulatory laws, I’m arguing against my own interest. During the last 5 years, I did a lot of consulting work involving SOX compliance.)
